Lilac Meadows

I have spent the last several months spending time with many of the families living at Lilac Meadows. These images were captured digitally over the month of November 2019.

It starts with 211. A call to this help line gets you on a list and that list is long. Families at Lilac Meadows have been homeless or houseless for months or even years before they step onto the gold brocade carpet, lean over the counter and ask, "what is for dinner tonight?"

Outside the office door, the building buzzes with life. Art projects swing from scotch tape and the coffee maker steams.

Shannon and Tamara wrap up for the day.

David roars in the lobby.

David plays with the new train track for 30 minutes before he looks up and asks "Hey, why is the train here?"

Ellie who hates pizza and loves spaghetti regularly shares stories of her years on the bike trail. She is thrilled to take home one of Chelsea, a guest and self taught painter's newest paintings.

Shannon helps Amanda by toting little Beatrice upstairs while Amanda carries the stroller.

Haven practices her letters in her families' room at Lilac Meadows.

Beatrice asks for a hug.
